Dear Corning Community,

I am excited to reintroduce myself to the students, families and community members as the new
superintendent of the Corning Union High School District starting in the 2026-2027 school year.

I say “reintroduce” because I have deep roots in this community and Tehama County, roots that
remains strong to this day. I was born in Corning Memorial Hospital, raised in Corning and
graduated from Corning Union High School with the class of 1984, just as my mother had
graduated from CUHS with the class of 1959. My parents and grandparents are buried at
Sunset Hill, and some of my earliest experiences as an educator were in this school system. I
have known some of you for all of my life, and hope to meet the rest of you shortly.

I am intensely proud of Corning Union High School and its longstanding tradition of developing
hard-working, honorable and productive members of society. Our fellow alumni can be found
across every sector of American life. CUHS graduates have gone on to become doctors,
lawyers, soldiers, business owners, professors, artists, professional athletes and, of course,
honest skilled laborers. This is not an accident, but the result of hard work and intentional
planning, the combined actions of generations of school board members, administrators,
teachers, parents and students.

To our students, I would say, if you can dream it, we will help you build the foundation to
achieve it. We want your time at CUHS to be meaningful, memorable and productive, just as it
was for those who came before you.

To everyone else, I remind you that the Corning Union High School District is a unified learning
community. This means that we encourage every household and every person in the district to
partner with us in supporting and educating our students. As Superintendent, my focus will be
on building strong relationships, supporting our teachers and staff, and ensuring that every
student has the tools and opportunity to succeed. I am excited to return to my home and serve
the community that I know and love so well and I look forward to meeting you soon.

Sincerely,
John Miller
Superintendent, Corning Union High School District
